When is a hot flash a hot flash? What if it's just an Annoyingly Warm Flash?

We sweat when we don't think we should be sweating. No rapid heartbeat or red face, as some sources have described, but definitely sweating.

Aunt Flo last visited about six weeks ago.

Anyone identify with this?

yeah - our hot flashes were just us feeling unusually warm - no rapid heartbeat or red face (that we know of anyway). and we don't seem to have many of them either... and we're never sure if they are supposed to persist indefinitely after menopause (aunt flo last visited us in december 2010)

Yup, a warm flash fits too, and sweating.

Though I generally didn't sweat profusely. I was even more sensitive than usual to discomfort when in places without good air circulation. Normal air circulation often wasn't enough either. I'd hang out the car window like a cr*z*d Borzoi (fm was driving, with the inside car fan going like mad). Um, the refrigerator was my dear friend.
When I did have a hot flash with any degree of sweating, I needed to be sensitive to a rapid muscle cool down that followed, to the point of a brief chill. That is another common occurrence, which, in my case, led to brief and mild fibro. symptoms.

No rapid heartbeat at all, or red face outside of what is normal for me. But, my ears could get very red and hot, with or without rest of me feeling warmish. I looked like a rabbit. For anyone who has this colorful symptom, not a good time to assume that ear canal temp. in any way reflects body temp. in general.

Thanks for the validation. Sorry we weren't feeling up to having lunch the last time that you called us.

We're having hot flashes aplenty. It's a real PITA. No need to stick our head inside the freezer, but it's becoming a bit of a joke among our female co-workers. Of course, we don't tell the males.

One co-worker, who apparently went through it at a very early age, suggested a supplement called Evening Primrose. We told her that we want to investigate it further to make sure it doesn't conflict with any medications.

It's okay. Lunch another time. Getting over a cold here.

FM should have taken a picture of me with head at entrance to freezer, and rest of me enjoying the cool of the open refrigerator. I think I almost fell asleep once. Those were special moments.

I didn't explore the supplement market, 'cept, for a while, I did take a Chinese capsule or pill composed of a seasoning used for fowl. Didn't do anything for me. I was born in the Year of the Rooster. So, I should know!

ROFLOAO trying to envision it.

We went to see our pdoc last night. She advised against the Evening Primrose, saying it has a hormone that's been linked to breast cancer. Dunno whether that's true, but we don't want to take hormones.

Aunt Flo continues to be not only a PITA, but an unpredictable one. At the risk of too much information:

Sept. 22, 2013: Aunt Flo's regular visit.

Autumn 2013: Numerous hot flashes, albeit mild ones. Though tempted to stick our head in the freezer, we decline.

Jan. 3, 2014: Aunt Flo's first visit since September.

Jan. 4, 2014: The body turns 52. In Aunt Flo's company. Happy happy joy joy.

Feb. 7, 2014: Aunt Flo reappears. We can never tell whether our emotional roller-coaster is PMS/PMDD, system issues, work-related stress, or some combination of the above.

Mid-February 2014 (current): Hot flashes return, as does extreme tiredness/sluggishness. Again not sure if Aunt Flo or other circumstances are the cause.

We'd appreciate some empathetic company here if anyone's inclined. Thanks.

Hi Laura and others.....I can definitely understand the hot flash stuff.........I suffer from night sweats that wake me up numerous times of the night. I don't get visits from Aunt Flo anymore....the last time I saw her was in my 20's I think. I was given these pills to make me have Aunt Flo visit but after awhile I stopped taking them. The specialist I saw( endocrinologist) did some tests and told us that is our body is in a constant state of stress and that is why we don't get visits from Aunt Flo anymore. Who knew????? I am not complaining though Good Riddens is all I have to say to her!

we totally empathize. it was so frustrating to have such irregular visits - especially when after a couple of months you think maybe she's gone for good... and six months later, surprise!

eventually she will stop visiting.

I didn't mind the Flo years, 'cept for cramps, which could get severe. The vigor of MA exercise pretty much took care of that. Two days of every month were obviously sub-par. I was fortunate because I was generally regular right up to the end.
After I crossed over to the other side (post minipaws), health problems gradually took hold to an unprecedented degree, like an avalanche. So, I'm not enthused with this time of life on a number of levels. Okay, it s*cks, a term I rarely use. Many women do fine though. Hopefully, you'll be of that tribe.
