Well, I brought my son to a new therapist. My son apparently discussed his upcoming birthday meal at his favorite restaurant and told the therapist he hoped his former abusers did not show up (as they have in the past). The therapist called me in privately for the last five minutes and said my son is "delusional" for thinking people would come from another state. He also feels DID gets over diagnosed!!!!!
I am not walking but running away from this therapist. Why, why, why can't therapists believe that a child or adult could have experienced severe trauma? I have PHOTOS to prove my son's experience is real. He is not delusional or psychotic. How sad to want assistance, to just want someone to listen and offer ways to cope, and to be disbelieved. I feel discouraged. Will I ever find a mental health professional who understands DID is real? I hope so.

2 things I would do. 1) if there is a governing body in your state (here in Canada they don't have much power) I would write a detailed report, send a copy of dx and photos and report the person. I would send same to therapist and just give name of dxing person(s). Then tell them to go f*ck themselves. Whole lotta nut bags out there.

Caution  RE: Dumping therapist
Thanks for your support.
I wish he didn't need help as I hate trying to find a caring appropriate therapist. No one seems to believe a child could have suffered extreme abuse. It has been almost five years since I learned he is DID and so far the therapy he has received has made him worse. I feel desperate to help him. Sometimes I wish I could take my kids and move to some deserted island and live a calmer life. It's hard!

I am so sorry for your experiences. We've been there and done that. We have gone in without ever stating MPD and tried to go at it that way. Then, maybe we treat the effects. My experience with Ts has not been very productive, though.

A Possible suggestion: Check out the International Society for the Study of Dissociation and Trauma (or Trauma and Dissociation) and see if they have any recommended therapists in your area. These people are experts on Trauma and DID. Maybe through them you can find someone that knows what they are doing. Best of luck and sending good thoughts. Igraine.

Feedback  RE: Dumping therapist
Thanks everyone for your suggestions and support. I found a new therapist roughly an hours drive from my home. We had a nice conversation and she seems to have experience treating DID and red dot victims. It is imperative that his therapist understand and believe that DID is real and that sadly red dot groups exist. Otherwise it causes my son further trauma. She suggested we meet first (which I applaud) so that I can provide background info and so that we can come up with a treatment plan together. She also does art therapy which I feel my son would benefit from. I will meet with her later in the week. While she doesn't accept my insurance she does charge a reasonable rate that I can afford. She is not money hungry like a former therapist we had.
I am hoping she will be an appropriate fit for him. We could use a boost in moral about now. Time will tell.
Thanks again!

So glad you found somebody reasonable sounding. And that she suggested that you meet with her first. This gives you the opportunity to form your own opinions. BTW, how old is your son?

Feedback  RE: Dumping therapist
Hi The People.
He recently turned fifteen. It is hard to believe. The years are passing too quickly. I am hoping he receives the help he needs so that he will be able to accomplish life's milestones like driving and attending college.
I am keeping my fingers crossed that this therapist works out.
