Worried about M cat. - The People - 04-18-2013 We went away for a few days. Had live in sitter arranged but it didn't work out. He came in but did not spend time with them. Not his fault. However, since we got home 2 nights ago M cat just does not appear t be herself. We did run out of thyroid meds and didn't get to it due to own health problem today. So she has been without for 2 days 9vet moved which is a PITA) Anyway, when she meows I can hardly hear her and she looks sad. She is 14 but that is not so old. She will let me pet her but does not seek me out. Not much anyway. Perhaps she is having an off day as she has lost her voice before. Parenting nonverbals is tough. RE: Worried about M cat. - Cammy - 04-18-2013 Maybe when M cat gets her meds back on schedule and her main person around, things will be okay. If M cat is hypothyroid a few days off meds could increase the size of the thyroid gland which is why the voice is quiet. In humans, an enlarging thyroid causes deepening of the voice. Sounds like a wait and see thing. Give the meds at least a week and then decide if vet inspection is needed. Of course if M cat stops eating or has trouble swallowing, this is much more urgent. I'm not an expert, but I have thyroid issues and lots of non-verbal lifeforms in my life, so this is all based on personal experience. Hope it helps. RE: Worried about M cat. - The People - 04-21-2013 Thanks folks. M cat is back to being her pesky self although she appears to have lost another tooth.
