Crisis Links & Resources

  • Secret Shame Website

Self-Injury: You are not the only one   From their site:  "In spite of the title, there is no shame here. This site is meant to help you understand that you are doing nothing shameful -- you are maintaining psychological integrity with the only tool you have right now. It's a crude and ultimately self-destructive tool, but it works; you get relief from the overwhelming pain/fear/anxiety in your life. For some, though, there comes a breakthrough moment when they realize that change is possible, that they can escape, that things can be different. I hope that when you leave this site, you will have come closer to that moment. "

  • Self Injury - Information and Resources (UK)

From their site:  "Lots of people - including myself - end up hurting themselves in various ways. It can sometimes seem like the only way of releasing feelings, or coping with difficult times. The worst thing about this sort of behaviour is that it is often seen as "abnormal" or "incomprehensible" and it is so easy to feel that you are the only person who does this. Well, you are NOT the only one... I hope that these pages provide helpful information."

  • Suicide Crisis Lines

This site contains information on Suicide Hot Lines and what you can expect in a call to such a place. Also includes region specific hot line numbers.

  • A Comprehensive Approach to Suicide Prevention

From their site:  Most people who contemplate committing suicide are ambivalent, undecided or another way to put it is that they're "teetering" between doing it and not doing it. Imagine a big refrigerator sitting on a porch. How easy is it to move? Not very. But if it's on one edge teetering... now how easy is it to tip it either way? See? The pain has pushed them up near that edge, they are teetering between the pain of living and the pain of dying."

  • Scars to Match the Inside

From her site:  "Warning: This page may be triggering. Please make yourself safe before continuing. Disclaimer: I am not a doctor and these pages are not a substitute for professional help." This is a link to a community member's page on Self Injury. Good resource, though caution is advised.

  • Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN): Counseling Centers

You call the RAINN hotline 24 hours a day at 1-800-656-HOPE (4673) or you can search for a Crisis Center near you by using their search function.

  • Suicide Awareness / Voices of Education (SA/VE)

Perhaps not a crisis link exactly, this is a good information resource if your life has been impacted by suicidal ideation - your own or someone else's, or an actual suicide by someone close to you.

  • Suicide.... Read this first

From their site: "Suicide is not chosen; it happens when pain exceeds resources for coping with pain." and "If you are feeling suicidal now, please stop long enough to read this. It will only take about five minutes. I do not want to talk you out of your bad feelings. I am not a therapist or other mental health professional - only someone who knows what it is like to be in pain."

  • Healing Touch: A Self Injury Website

From their site:   "Self injury is the general term used to describe self-inflicted pain or injury on oneself. Most commonly this is in the form of cutting or burning, but there are many other forms of self-injury. Self injury is often linked to depression, and is - simply expressed - a coping mechanism."

  • Resources and Support Off the Net

This page has a very good listing of facilities that are familiar with dissociative disorders. The top part of the page has offline resources such as newsletters, but if you scroll down, there is a listing of treatment centers and facilities.
